If your Lenovo Yoga laptop won’t turn ON, troubleshooting power issues could fix it. We love Lenovo laptops and you can tell from articles such as this one, that we are never too shy to recommend them to you guys as great options if you’re looking for quality laptops.
Many of you, though, have made complaints about the Lenovo Yoga laptop, and it just seems everyone who uses the laptop has had to deal with one power issue or another. Well, if your Lenovo Yoga laptop won’t turn ON, here are possible reasons why, and some things to try to get it fixed.
Lenovo Yoga Laptop Won’t Turn ON? Possible Causes
Most laptop processors have an internal thermal function that shuts down the laptop’s system when it starts to overheat, that is if it gets dangerously hot. For most overheating issues, we won’t expect this, because these thermal functions are designed to kick in when the laptop gets to around 95 degrees hot. So, this shutdown is often a sign that your laptop has serious underlying issues and needs maintenance. If it does come back ON, try to get it looked at ASAP.
Faulty power cord and battery
Your laptop’s power cord may have developed some breaks at a point, which could be disrupting the flow of electricity from the power outlet to the laptop. If your battery is bad, connecting your laptop to power might be the only way for it to start. If your power cord goes bad, changing the battery and/or the power cord simply fixes things.
Panel/motherboard issues
If your Lenovo Yoga laptop won’t turn ON, it could be due to more technical reasons. A faulty or bad motherboard, faulty charging circuits, bad video card, or faulty RAM could be reasons why your Lenovo Yoga laptop won’t turn ON.
Lenovo Yoga Laptop Won’t Turn ON? Best Fixes
Fix 1: Check adapters and cables and power outlets
Check that the A.C adapter is correct for the system and make sure that it’s securely plugged in. If your Lenovo Yoga laptop power cord has any breaks or visible damage, you would need to replace it.
You can find a replacement online, and at electronic retailers. Power outlets could also be the culprit. As a rule of thumb, if the charging indicator on your Laptop isn’t showing up, it probably has to do with connections and cables.
Fix 2: Connect to an external monitor
If your Lenovo Yoga laptop won’t turn ON, try connecting to an external monitor to be sure you’re not dealing with a black screen.
Hold down the power button for some seconds to completely shut it down >> Connect the laptop to an external monitor, then press the power button to try to start it and give it some minutes >> it should display on the TV if it’s just some screen issue. If not, try clicking the F4 key on your keyboard to try initiating a display on the external monitor.
Fix 3: Do a power drain
We will almost always recommend a power drain, especially when you’re sure your display, the adapters, and cables aren’t the culprits.
To do a power drain,
- Disconnect all external devices and have the laptop disconnected from the power outlet
- If your battery is removable, take the battery out
Note: if your laptop comes with an internal battery, look around the chassis for the reset hole. Inserting a paper clip into this almost always works the same way as removing the battery. We should also mention that some Lenovo Yoga laptops come with a NOVO button for accessing the BIOS and Recovery Mode
If your laptop has neither a reset hole where you can do a manual reset nor a NOVO button, you should try pressing down the power button for around 10 seconds to see if that resets the laptop.
- After completing the previous step, try reinserting your power cable, plug it into the power source, and start your PC. If the PC starts, you can then start reconnecting your external devices. If still, your Lenovo Yoga laptop won’t turn ON, you might be dealing with a power issue and you’d need a tech to take a look at this for you.
Fix 5: Check for overheating
If your Lenovo Yoga laptop shut down by itself in the middle of an operation and it won’t come on, check your device for overheating. If your device is overheating, you should let it cool down before trying to turn it ON again.
Why Won’t My Lenovo Yoga Laptop Turn ON Even When Plugged In?
A bad or broken power cord or connector
Your Lenovo Yoga laptop’s power cord could be broken or there could be no current running through the wires. If this is the case, you would need to have it replaced. You would also want to confirm that the laptop shows an indication that it’s charging. If there is no indication that it’s charging, then you need to check your power outlet, adapter, and the charging port and plug.
Technical issues
The second reason we would generally suspect would be a lot more technical for the average user. From motherboard issues, RAM to cards of all types. If you ever suspect that the reason why your Lenovo Yoga laptop won’t turn is because of any of these, then just get in touch with a laptop tech, and if your Lenovo Yoga laptop still has warranty coverage, just take it back to the stores.
