There is more behind choosing the best monitor than finding the right specifications. There are monitors specifically designed for different things, such as gaming, graphic design, or watching videos.

In today’s article, we will focus on finding the best monitors for graphic design. Graphic designers are not interested in high-refresh-rate for a smoother image. As a graphic designer, you have to focus on choosing a monitor with great color accuracy.

Here are some other important factors you need to consider when choosing your monitor that will satisfy your graphic design needs.


Nowadays, technology advances at a very fast pace. This allows us to choose between various resolutions and find the best monitor that will suit our preferences.

At the moment, the best resolution for a monitor is 8K, but they are relatively new on the market, which makes them very expensive. Realistically, you will be better off buying a 4K monitor with the highest available resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. These types of monitors have four times the pixels found in 1080p (Full HD).

Choosing the best resolution will have a great impact on your work as a graphic designer. The best thing to go for is a (WQHD) with a pixel ration of 2560 x 1440 pixels, otherwise known as 1440p.

Choose the Best Panel

The most important thing you should focus on is color accuracy. As we mentioned before, the panel technology defines the purpose of the monitor. That’s why you have to choose a monitor with Advanced High-performance in-plane switching (AH-IPS) panel.

The monitor you choose should be able to make frequent color calibrations and cover at least 99% of the Adobe RGB color space.

By choosing PS-panel, you will avoid the unwanted shades of dark gray and light that can mess up the color of your design. Additionally, PS panels deliver solid color fidelity and luminosity when you are viewing from a different angle.

Screen size

Size matters. That’s why in UFC, for example, there are different categories and famous men and famous female MMA fighters compete in strawweight, lightweight, flyweight and heavyweight categories. To monitors, there are also different categories concerning the screen size.

So, you have to go with the size that suits your preferences, not with a size that someone tells you that is the best. Sometimes, your display size is limited due to the office space, but you can still find something that will be good for you.

The most preferred size by other graphic designers is from 27 to 32 inches. The size will increase the cost of your monitor. If you are on a limited budget, it is best if you go with a lower sized monitor but choosing the right panel.


As a graphic designer, you probably already know the importance of external connectors. You have to choose a monitor that has many different connectivity options, such as HDMI, dual-link DVI ports, or DisplayPort 1.2.

Another important thing to consider is if your computer will be able to support the monitor. You might want a high-resolution UHD (4K) monitor, but your graphics card might not have the needed performance to power up the monitor.


Monitors come in different shapes and sizes. Most people don’t consider the importance of ergonomics, even though they are spending half of their day in front of the computer.
