The second-generation iPhone SE sports many features that left us quite impressed- and at such a price too. The offer seems a bit too good to be true, so we have researched for you.
If you are considering getting one, you may have wondered how long you get to use it. Questions like “how long will iPhone SE (2020) be supported?” and “is the iPhone SE worth buying now?” come to mind. Let’s answer some of these questions for you.
How long will iPhone SE (2020) be supported?
As most iPhones are usually supported for about 5+ years, we believe the same is true for the iPhone SE 2020. However, we have reason to believe that it will last even longer than that. We know for sure that it will be supported for around the same time as the iPhone 11 Pro Max. We are super excited to see how that goes.
The first-generation iPhone SE still works great and had gotten some of the recent iOS updates. So, it isn’t out of place to believe that the second-generation iPhone SE will follow the same path.
Will iPhone SE still work in 2022?
Yes, the iPhone SE will still work in 2022. All iPhones last for very long, even longer when you take proper care of them. We know that the first-generation iPhone SE is getting iOS 15, and we think that it is remarkable. We believe the second-generation iPhone SE will last equally as long, if not longer. Especially with its features, particularly the powerful processor it has – just like the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro models.
Is the iPhone SE worth buying now?
Yes! The iPhone SE 2020 is deal if you’re on a budget, and it is still worth buying now.
With the iPhone SE 2020, you get the same A13 Bionic chip Apple used in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro models, along with the camera from the iPhone XR. And these devices are way costlier. The best part? We are sure it’ll last you for a while, as the iPhone SE 2020 will be supported for as long as the current iPhone 11 models.
If you have been looking to get a budget phone with great features you can use for a while, the iPhone SE 2020 is 100% worth the buy.
How long will iPhone SE 2nd Gen be supported?
The iPhone SE 2ndGen will continue being supported for at least until 2025, maybe even longer. Even the iPhone 6s is still supported with updates to date, and it was released way back in 2015.
If we are basing our prediction on the support of the 1st generation iPhone SE, then we would say about 5½ years. Compared to some Android devices, that is quite a lot. Many Android phones get at most 2-3 years of support, and that’s it.
How long will the iPhone SE get updates?
The first-generation iPhone SE is rumored to stop getting updates in the fall of 2022 (with the iOS 16). If this is the case, then this model would have been supported for about 6 years. As for the iPhone SE 2020, perhaps up until 2023 or 2025. It could be longer, considering that the first-generation SE has been supported for this long.
Ideally, the iPhone SE 2020 should be supported well into 2026. We expect this partly because of its features, and partly because of the 1st generation iPhone SE precedent.
What iPhones will stop working in 2022?
There are rumors about some Apple devices that are set to stop receiving updates in 2022 and as such will no longer work. These include iPhone 4 (8 GB), iPhone 4S, iPhone 4S (8 GB), iPhone 5, and iPhone 5C.
There are also rumors that the 1st generation iPhone SE will stop receiving updates in 2022, but we have not found any official statement from Apple confirming this. Regardless of what happens, it is still remarkable that the 1st gen iPhone SE has held out this long.
Can iPhone SE (2020) get 5G?
Sadly, no. The iPhone SE 2020 is not equipped with 5G support as Apple decided to go with 4G LTE for this model. But, the iPhone 12 and 13 support 5G.
Understandably, this is disappointing for everyone who plans to get the iPhone SE 2020 model but also anticipated the lightning-fast internet speed advertised as 5G. Not to worry, though. This device has other features that make up for it.

Will the iPhone SE 2022 have a home button?
Yes, we expect that the coming iPhone SE 2022 will have a home button, along with many other impressive features. We hope to see a 4.7-inch LCD with thick bezels and a Touch ID Home button.
It would interest you to know that this will be Apple’s most recent release that still offers the Touch ID feature. All other recent releases use face ID. While we have reason to believe that Apple will release an iPhone SE in the future that also has the face ID feature, we will not be getting it with the SE 2022 model.
In summary,
Is the iPhone SE 2020 worth it? Our honest opinion is yes, absolutely. It is rare to find a device with so many features on such a budget. It is also pretty compact and as such is the dream for people who don’t like bulky phones. We think it is worth it. And yes, it’ll be around for a while. Left for us, we’d say go for it. But it is up to you to decide what works best for you!
