Sometimes caused by something as small as an improper connection, DisplayPort Driver Not Working on Windows 10 running machines – laptops and desktops, can have a very huge impact on your processes, from causing downtime on the job to making it almost impossible to connect your computer to your monitor.
DisplayPort ensures that a high-performance display is delivered to the end-user, compared to other modes of connection, using an HDMI cable for connections delivers far improved display quality. If your monitors do not receive a signal when your devices are connected via DisplayPort, we thought of a few options that would surely come in handy in fixing the DisplayPort driver not working on Windows 10 for users. These fixes are working for Dell, HP, Sceptre, and many other screens.
Fix 1. Disable power saving on Dell
It’s possible that the DisplayPort feature isn’t working on your Dell machine because the monitor soft boots, resulting in a dysfunctional DP. We have found that turning OFF the monitor Power Saving feature from the monitor OSD should either fix the problem or help to avoid it.
To fix DisplayPort not working on Dell, press the menu button to open the On-Screen Display >> go to Others >> select Power Saving >> Turn it OFF >> Save and Exit the On-Screen Display.
While this fix has been tested and has been found to work on Dell and HP monitors, we generally encourage that you should try it on your machine to see if it works.
Fix 2. Unplug the cord
Another fix to try out on Dell machines is to: Connect both DisplayPort and HDMI cables to the monitor >> Start Windows with HDMI Mode >> then make the switch to DP via the OSD (you’ll see no message, just sleep mode and black screen) >> Remove the power cord from the monitor (don’t use the switch) and wait for some time >> Re-insert the power cable and Restart.
Fix 3. Update GPU BIOS and drivers
Another fix to try is an update of the BIOS of the GPU. In our case, that was the GTX 970, after completing the update, test to see if it works first before updating the drivers. If it does, you don’t need to touch the drivers. When the BIOS update didn’t work in our case, we updated our NVIDIA drivers, we then installed a monitor driver. You should use the NVIDIA Graphics Firmware update tool for DisplayPort.

Fix 4: Checking NVIDIA control panel settings
Another option will be playing with your NVIDIA control panel itself. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel >> click Manage 3D Settings >> under Global Settings, set Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum Performance. Forcing the graphic cards to maximum performance fixes the issue of the card entering an energy-saving state.
Fix 5: Swap the DisplayPort Cord
If none of these has fixed the DisplayPort driver Not Working on Windows 10 issue, then you should try playing around with the cord, the monitor, and the computer, because any one of these three could potentially be causing these issues. You might want to try using another monitor with the same DP cord and computer, if it stays the same, try testing the monitor and cord with another computer, and if the problem persists, try swapping the cord for another one to see if that fixes it for you.

Fix 6: Rollback updates and/or change the refresh rate
If you have recently done an update on the software side of things before experiencing this issue, we recommend rolling back the update to see if something was broken by the update. You would also want to change the refresh rate on your monitor to see if it works.
To roll back the driver update, click Properties >> select the Driver tab >> if there is an option to roll back, click it.

How to Update DisplayPort driver Windows 10
Nvidia has found that several users of its graphics cards experience display issues with monitors operating via DisplayPort 1.3 or 1.4. Since the problem cannot be solved by the drivers, it has released a graphics card firmware update which I’ll put you through.
- Start by downloading the utility named Nvidia DisplayPort Firmware Updater.
- After downloading the exe file, run and install it.
- Remember to plug in your power source to update the firmware. Then, click on Next, and the update will begin.
- Restart the computer after the installation is finished.
Tips
- This tool helps automate a lot of features for neophytes (update drivers, optimization of graphic settings, etc.).
- It can also detect the graphics card and automatically apply the update patch.
- Note that the utility works just as well on Founders Edition type cards as on custom cards from Nvidia’s partners – whether they are “overclocked” or not.
How to Download DisplayPort to HDMI Driver
To download DisplayPort to your computer’s HDMI drivers, go to your computer manufacturer’s website to get the link. For HP computers, you can do that here.
After successfully downloading the DisplayPort, install it by following the step-by-step process shown to you on the screen.
DisplayPort Not Working but HDMI Is?
Here are fixes that will work if you have this issue:
Fix 1: Install the monitor drivers if needed
Certain monitors may need you to install native drivers before the monitor components can work. If this is not done, the monitor may not detect any signal from your device. You can confirm from the manual or contact the manufacturer to know if installing monitor drivers is necessary.
Fix 2: Choose the correct input source
Make sure you select the correct DisplayPort if your monitor has multiple ports. You can select the correct port from the menu. Assuming the monitor has two display ports, “DisplayPort1” and “DisplayPort2”, make sure the monitor is set to the latter if your cable is plugged to “DisplayPort2”. You can use the user manual to learn how to identify the ports and configure them.
Fix 3: Remove and reconnect the DisplayPort cable
Remove the cable and plug it back if your monitor doesn’t detect a signal from your PC. Before plugging it back, check if the port is clean and without dust or liquid. These can block contact between cable, PC, and display port monitor. Use compressed air can to remove dirt from the port.
Fix 4: Select a different cable or computer
The reason why the DisplayPort didn’t work might be because the cable is faulty, and the monitor’s DisplayPort is bad. So first, try using the cable on another monitor to ensure it’s in good condition. Then, if the problem continues, try a new cable.
Fix 5: Reboot Your Computer Graphics Driver
Windows comes with many built-in troubleshooting tools that can help fix issues. For example, restarting your drivers can help if your computer can detect external monitors connected via DisplayPort.
- Unplug the cable from your PC.
- Press the Windows key alongside Ctrl + B + Shift. Your screen should go OFF for 2 seconds with a beep sound.
- Plug the cable to your computer and check if the monitor receives the signal.
Fix 6: Restart Your Devices
Restarting your computer and monitor may help if restarting your driver does not work.
Fix 7: Use the Recommended DisplayPort Cable
It is recommended you make use of the DisplayPort cable that came with the monitor. Most monitor makers have stores where you can get accessories for your electronic devices. Ensure the DisplayPort Cable is certified by the manufacturer.
Fix 8: Update Your Monitor
Manufacturers can release new firmware updates to help fix malfunctions and errors and for better running of the product. Go to your manufacturer’s website and check for the new updates. You can also find user guides on how to install the updates.

- Click on Search automatically for driver software
- Wait for the update to be installed
- You can also click on Search for updated drivers on Windows Update
- Now click on Check for Updates. Your computer should start searching for driver updates.
How to Enable DisplayPort
- To do this, open the BIOS. This should display all the essential settings for your computer.
- Look for the advanced tab and lock on it
- Search for IGPU and Multiple Display settings.
- Enabling both should enable DisplayPort on your motherboard.
- To enable DisplayPort on monitors, make sure it supports DisplayPort. Next, connect your PC to your monitor with the appropriate video cable.
How to Check the DisplayPort Version of Windows 10
- Confirm your computer Processor by going to Control Panel >> System and Security >> System.
- You would see your processor model under device specifications.
- Next, go to your processor manufacturer’s website (e.g., Intel or AMD).
- Look for the value under Max Resolution (DP). You should see the maximum resolution that your DisplayPort output can support.
